About Kyona Alpacas
Kyona Alpacas was established in 2005 and is a family business, operated by sisters-in-law, Kylie Streatfeild and Fiona McKenna. We wanted to be able to enter an agricultural enterprise that provided us with a challenge and enabled us to be a productive part of our family property. The evolving and innovative alpaca industry provided us with these opportunities and due to the easy management of the alpaca we are able to run and manage our business at the same time as working elsewhere and having small children.
Our breeding program started with 3 breeding females and two female cria at foot. We currently still have a small herd of breeding females and a stud male and also run a number of wethers on the property as guards. We are basing our breeding principles on quality rather than quantity.
Kyona Alpacas are directing their breeding program on white and light fawn, but also have a small number of med/dark fawn and brown alpacas. Our focus is “breeding for perfection” and use stud males in our breeding program to instill traits such as fineness, density, crimp and staple definition whilst being soft and lustrous.
We are located in the Millthorpe/Forest Reefs area, approximately 15 minutes south of Orange on rich basalt soils with gorgeous views to Mt Canobolas. Fiona, her husband Wes and their two children Rachel and Mathew live on the outskirts of Millthorpe. Fiona works as a Corporate Support Officer at Blayney Shire Council on a part time basis. Kylie and Jason and their two boys, Hayden and Joshua, live on the family property at Forest Reefs. Kylie works part time as a Family Support Worker for a local organization assisting children with a disability and their families, also on a part time basis. Both Kylie and Fiona work on the family sheep and cropping property.
Jason and Wes work full time and have been instrumental in the development and ongoing management of Kyona Alpacas. They have been invaluable in building infrastructure and assisting in alpaca maintenance.
We have used elite bloodlines to improve the quality of our herd. These include Purrembete Inti, El Dorado, Peruvian Hemmingway, Escobar, Jolimont Sollocata and Alpacapartners Pann.
We are passionate about our alpacas and would like to share this passion with new and existing breeders. We offer excellent sales and support.
